on our slide we will include what our fundraising was for, which was our non-profit organization that helps the Uganda orphans who have suffered at the hands of HIVS/AIDS. We will also talk about what we fundraised individually, how much we made individually, and how much we made as a whole group. Then we will talk about our action plan and some challenges that we had faced while doing this project. Lastly we will answer any questions that either our teachers or our classmates have that concerns anything about our project.
Next week our group will be presenting our pamphlet and slideshow. Our pamphlet will be a hand help copy of our slide show. It will have go deeper into depth of whats on our slides. It will have the pictures so they can see what our group is talking about. We will also put a little "About the Authors" page so that our audience knows more about who our group is and what we wanted to accomplish as a group.

Our group made $30.00 in all. We only made a little because we forgot to get our fundraising part of the project approved. We skipped that part of the action plan because other groups were just selling food without asking the school. So, we thought that it would be alright, but apparently it wasn't. So we stopped with our sells and decided to just stop and donate what ever we had.
Now our group has our $30.00, but we don't know how to donate it to the group. Our teacher told suggested that we get a credit or debt card, add the money there, and then use the card to donate the money. Though the only thing wrong with that is who would control the card because we are too young to own a credit/debit card. During the 4 week of the Kahiua project I was way more successful than I had been in week 2. During this week I decided to sell my (now good and improved) s'mores brownies along with ice popsicles. I figured that I would want to sell something sweet and easily manageable rather than brownies, so I had decided to e
During week 3 of our Kahiau Project I took the time to better research my s'mores brownie recipe. Last week was a disaster, my brownies turned out terrible because the marshmallow's melted and made the top layer gooey and uncooked. Though from my research time I had learned that I was supposed to cook the brownies first, then put the marshmallows on top, next put it back into the oven to let the marshmallows melt, and lastly take out my finished s'mores product.
A problem/challenge that I am facing is making the food to sell for the donations. Preparation for the food to sell takes about a hour and a half and I get home at 7:00. By the time I'm done making the food it's almost 9:00, then I have to do my homework which takes about 2-3 hours, do my chores which takes about 30 minuets, bathe which takes 10-15 minutes, and eat dinner which is about 45 minutes. So, by the end of each night I make food I am going to bed at 1:00 or 2:00. Then I have to get up at 5:00 to get ready for school, so I am only getting about 3 hours of sleep.
For fundraising I choose to make brownies. Though there was surprisingly a lot of complications that I wasn't aware I would come across of. My parents didn't want to buy the brownie mix for me to sell for the whole week. So they only bought me enough brownie mix to sell for two days. One batch turned out spoiled because the ingredient needed oil and the oil was expired. So I actually was only able to sell for one day. For the one day that I sold, I made $10.00. I don't look at this situation negatively, but I look at it in a positive way. I was happy to see that our group is now $10.00 closer to our goal.
Our group has decided to sell either candies or muffins from Costco Wholesale Foods. We hope that the kids at our school will buy our products so that we are able to aid to the donation of our chosen project with the money we fund raised.
What do you/as a group hope to learn? As a we group we would like to learn the value of being selfless. Selflessness in our own definition is to put yourself before others. We hope that we can learn this characteristic from helping the orphans of Uganda and also hope that we can become selfless as a group and as individuals. What do you hope to accomplish? To raise enough money so that we can aid in the projects foundation that will help the orphans of Uganda and to raise awareness about this serious need our group is trying to tackle. What leadership skills/traits are you trying to exhibit? We are trying to show the leadership skills of kōkua/being helpful, kuleana/having responsibility, and hōʻihi/being respect. We are showing kōkua by helping the Orphans of Uganda and by raising money to aid in their projects donations. We are showing that we have a kuleana to the people of earth by caring not for only the people of Hawaiʻi, America, or our family members, but for the children, the future of Uganda. We are showing our hōʻihi to the children and people of Uganda because we are not looking upon them as a third world country or poor unfortunate souls, but as people who are in need of help that our group can provide. What are the challenges your chosen project faces? The children of Uganda sometimes have to live without a family due to the death of family member by terminal medical issues. What are the challenges you face in completing this project.
Our group is not positive on what exact challenges we could possibly face, but we do know that there will definitely be challenges that cross our path. Though we are sure one challenge, will we meet our desired goal? This is a question that has to be in the back of our groups mine if we actually of want to meet our goal. |
